Duchamp Researche Centre
The Freunde des Staatlichen Museums Schwerin e. V. awarded the now well-known Duchamp research scholarship for the fifth time.
Nine international applications dealing with questions concerning the connection between image and diagram in Duchamp's early work, chess and work, or the connection of the Mona Lisa's beard in L.H.O.O.Q. with Fountain, provided an exciting jury session with lively discussions.
Chaired by Prof. Dr. Kornelia von Berswordt-Wallrabe, Schwerin, the sitting was attended by Dr. Susanne Kaufmann, scientific assistant at the Marcel Duchamp research project of the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart and Postdoc Fellow of the Volkswagen Foundation, Mechthild Bening, chairman of the Freunde, as well as the heads of the Duchamp Research Centre, Dr. Gerhard Graulich and Dr. Kornelia Röder, Staatliches Museum Schwerin.
Unanimously, the jury selected the application of US American Jill O'Connor. She convinced by her research project "Closing the Infra-thin Gap Between Marcel Duchamp's The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even and Étant donnés.”
The research project, which is endowed with a monthly funding of 500 EUR, starts on 1 January 2017 and runs for one year. In the first quarter of 2017, Jill O'Connor will come to Schwerin to study and present her research topic at the Gallery of Old & New Masters.
